Richard's two ponds, one 10 feet by 16 feet and the other 3 feet by 5 feet, lie at the end of the deck in a natural ravine surrounded by scrub oak, cedar and pine trees.

The waterfall and streams are powered by three MSP pumps. Water splashed down the stream into the main pond.

Koi swim freely through the water plants. See the long flowing fins of the butterfly.

Tucked in the edge of the smaller pond, this superb orange canna. Cannas are one of the tropical plants that many water gardeners cultivate. As you can see by the large orange bloom, it is a plant that returns the favor.

The water garden does not have to stop at the ponds edge. Richard has these two water containers on his deck. You can see the marginals are in pots that stand above the water surface. This allows the marginals ample water from the bottom. The water surface is covered by a small floating water plant. As the water level goes up and down, the floating plants do not get stranded on the marginal pots.

Richard was on the 2001 pond tour.
