As
you walk toward the back yard, this small pond causes you to pause for a moment.
This gives you a preview of what is to come when you get to the back. The splash
of water is a peaceful sound to the outside viewer along with anyone in the
front office.
Tom constructed this unique pond last year (2000). It is 20
feet long by 9 feet wide. A canyon in the back yard provided a perfect opportunity
for this unique pond. Sixty tons of boulders were brought in to build up the
pond and fill the canyon. The pond helps to stop the canyon erosion while providing
an oasis in the back yard.
The waterfall
flows from the filter, spilling over the flagstone, splashing into the pond. The
water's edge is lined with water celery and other hardy marginals.
The
backyard contains many copper sculptures that Tom has made. Standing above the
pond you can see the copper man, dancing at the waters edge. If you allow your
eye to rise from the pond you find Colorado Springs in the valley below.
Tom and Irene were on the 2001 pond tour.
